lb kicker

(Aug. 15, 2005 - Lake Sam Rayburn, TX.)... Wrapping up the 2005 season, Bass N Bucks anglers launched on
Sam Rayburn August 13th on a clear starlit morning, enjoying a spectacular meteor display heading to Twin
Dikes Marina to check in. Once all of the teams were gathered, Dave Concienne let the teams go one by one
to head to their hopeful fishing holes, with one last chance effort to make the Championship.
The bite has been tough for most anglers for weeks preceding the event. Bright sunshine and hot
temperatures filled the day, with a looming front approaching. At the weigh-in, everyone kept one eye on
the scales and the other on the dark storm clouds quickly heading in. The last sack of fish was barely
weighed in before the cooling wind picked up and the rain started pouring down.
Bobby LeBert and Paul Eason, winners of the last tournament on Sam Rayburn pulled it off again bringing
in 28.66 lbs. "We used the same patterns as the last tournament, but had to go to different spots" Bobby
began. "Our fish were off of main lake points in about 12-15’". They threw Carolina rigged watermelon
candy trick worms, and also managed a 9.62 lb kicker that won Big Bass honors and an additional $1,000
sponsored by Kicker Fish Bait Co. Their 1st place check was for $4,000. They would like to thank Dawson
Marine and Skeeter Boats for their support.
Bill Rogers and Bill Guillory came in 2nd place with their 21.4 lb limit. "We caught all of our fish
before 8:00" stated Guillory. They concentrated on deep brush piles in about 20-25’. "We caught them on
Carolina rigged watermelon lizards and trick worms. We also pulled some in on crank baits." They had a
nice kicker as well, weighing in at 9.56 lbs, just 6/100 of a pound less than LeBert & Eason’s big bass.
Rogers and Guillory enjoyed a $2,000 2nd place payday.
In 3rd place with 21.1 lbs was the team of Sammy Atchison and Chris Harvey. "We had our limit in the boat
by around 10:30" Sammy said. "We were throwing Texas rigged red bug Old Monster worms around brush piles.
We caught seven keepers and one short fish. Our big bass broke off on us." They received the $1,400 3rd
place check, plus another $1,000 Champion Bonus for being the highest finishing qualified Champion boat
owners.
"This has been a great year" Dave Concienne stated. "It is great to see everyone who has been with Bass N
Bucks for years, plus we’ve met a lot of new anglers this year as well. We’d like to thank everyone for
fishing with us this year, and wish all of the Championship qualifiers ‘Good Luck’ September 17-18 on Sam
Rayburn at the Umphrey Family Pavilion. Tricia and I would also like to thank all of our sponsors who
have helped make Bass N Bucks such a rewarding circuit. Once we get the Championship behind us, we’ll
make the transition from bass to bucks for a while and enjoy deer season until our 2006 season kick off
event December 4th on Sam Rayburn at the Pavilion." The top twenty teams from the summer series plus the
top three couples qualify for the Championship, in addition to the teams that qualified from the first
series. "We are excited to be giving away three fully rigged Champion / Mercury boats and the Southeast
Texas Toyota dealers - Philpott , Silsbee, Cecil Atkission and Kinsel Toyota - are also providing a
Toyota Tundra V-8 to be won at the Championship. Toyota has really come out with a tough, strong,
gas-efficient truck that is perfect for the angler on the go. Congratulations to all of our winners and
good luck to everyone in the Championship." - Dave Concienne
